10 Best Peanut Butter Brands in India 2026, Ranked on Lab Tests and Labels
Most "best peanut butter" lists rank jars on taste and protein claims. We also checked what's actually in them: the ingredient list, the price per 100 g, and independent lab results for aflatoxin, a mould toxin that turned up at ten times India's limit in one popular jar. Here are the ten we'd buy, for daily use, the gym, weight gain and tight budgets.
Six of our ten picks. Jar images from brand stores and retailer listings.
The best peanut butter in India for most people is a jar made only from roasted peanuts, and Alpino Natural is our top pick: one ingredient, 30 g of protein per 100 g, about ₹29–35 per 100 g, and the only jar in Unbox Health's 2024 lab tests with no aflatoxin detected. The Whole Truth Unsweetened is the premium alternative, MyFitness Natural is the best bulk buy for the gym, and Sundrop Natural is the one you'll find in any supermarket. If you want it sweet, MyFitness Original and Dr. Oetker FunFoods are 91% peanuts with 7–8 g of sugar per 100 g. Skip "natural" jars that aren't on our list until their makers publish newer batch tests: one tested at ten times India's aflatoxin limit.

Peanuts first
Jars that are 100% roasted peanuts rank above sweetened ones. Among classic jars we prefer more peanuts, less sugar and no palm oil or hydrogenated fat.
Independent tests
Unbox Health buys jars off the shelf and tests them at NABL-accredited labs for protein, sugar, fat, aflatoxin and heavy metals. We used every peanut butter result it has published. [1]

You'll eat a jar a month or more, so we compare the price per 100 g at the cheapest common pack size, not the sticker price.

The 10 best peanut butter brands in India, reviewed.

Alpino Natural Peanut Butter
The best peanut butter in India for most people: one ingredient, roasted peanuts, with no added sugar, salt or oil, at one of the lowest prices for a natural jar. The label claims 30 g of protein per 100 g, and when Unbox Health tested a jar bought off the shelf, the lab measured 30.25 g. That same test found no aflatoxin at all, the only one of 11 peanut butters with a clean result. [2] It's also one of the cheapest natural jars per 100 g, especially in the 1 kg and 2 kg sizes.
Ingredients: roasted peanuts. Watch for: the oil separates, as it does in any jar without a stabiliser; stir it back in. Alpino's Classic+, chocolate and "Super" jars add sugar and other ingredients and are different products. [10]

The Whole Truth Unsweetened Peanut Butter
Also just peanuts, and the brand most transparent about it: it names the peanut variety it uses and publishes third-party test reports for its products on its own website. It costs about 50% more than Alpino per 100 g. The label shows 25.1 g of protein per 100 g, lower than most rivals; that isn't a weaker product but a more conservative label (see why Indian jars say 30 g). Unbox Health hasn't tested this jar, but The Whole Truth's Dark Chocolate spread was rated A with low aflatoxin, a good sign for the brand's sourcing. [1] [11]
Ingredients: peanuts. Watch for: price. The 925 g pack is the one to buy; the 325 g jar costs about 12% more per 100 g.

MyFitness Natural Unsweetened Peanut Butter
MyFitness is India's biggest peanut butter brand by search interest, and its natural tub is the one to buy if you go through a jar every couple of weeks. It's 100% roasted peanuts with the highest protein figure of the natural jars here (31.4 g per 100 g, or 10 g in its 32 g serving), and the 1.25 kg tub keeps the price under ₹40 per 100 g. Unbox Health hasn't tested this variant; its test of MyFitness Chocolate Smooth found one of the lowest aflatoxin levels of any jar tested (2 µg/kg) and accurate label claims. [1] [12]
Ingredients: roasted peanuts. Watch for: the brand claims "95% less oil separation" despite having no stabiliser, so it may be ground finer; you'll still need to stir. The allergen note says the facility also handles soya.

Sundrop Peanut Butter Natural
Sundrop is the peanut butter most Indian supermarkets stock, but its regular jar has sugar and a stabiliser. Look for the Natural jar instead: roasted peanuts only, with no added sugar, salt or hydrogenated oil printed on the label. It's a fair price for a big-brand jar you can pick up in a kirana or on a quick-commerce app the same day. Unbox Health tested the sweetened Sundrop Creamy rather than this jar; that test found low aflatoxin (2.75 µg/kg) and accurate labelling, a good sign for the brand though not proof for this jar. [1] [14]
Ingredients: roasted peanuts. Watch for: don't confuse it with Sundrop's regular Creamy and Crunchy jars, or its "High Protein with Jaggery" and "Zero Sugar" lines, which are different recipes. The sugar figure is from the Natural Creamy label. [15]

The Butternut Co. Natural Peanut Butter
The highest protein claim of any plain peanut butter we found, and the lab backed it up: Unbox Health measured 32.05 g against 32 g on the label. It's dry-roasted peanuts and nothing else, from a smaller brand that sells mainly online. The aflatoxin result, 8.7 µg/kg, was under FSSAI's 10 µg/kg limit for ready-to-eat nuts but above the EU's stricter 4 µg/kg, which is part of why it got a C. [1] [5] [6]
Ingredients: 100% dry-roasted peanuts. Watch for: only sold in 340 g jars, so it costs about 50% more per 100 g than Alpino. [14]

Pintola All Natural Peanut Butter
Pintola is the second most searched peanut butter brand in India, and on paper its All Natural jar is as good as Alpino's: roasted peanuts only, 30 g of protein, and often under ₹300 for 1 kg on Amazon. The lab confirmed the nutrition (30.28 g protein, 3.25 g sugar). It's lower on our list because of the aflatoxin result: 11.05 µg/kg total aflatoxin, just above FSSAI's 10 µg/kg limit for ready-to-eat nuts, which pulled its non-toxicity score down to 1.8/10. [3] [5] One batch bought in 2024 doesn't tell you what's in today's jar, but until Pintola publishes newer independent results, we'd choose Alpino at the same price.
Ingredients: roasted peanuts. Watch for: Pintola's "Classic" jar adds sugar, salt and a stabiliser, and its "High Protein" range adds whey and jaggery (see #8). [14]

MyFitness Original Peanut Butter
If you grew up on sweet, salty, spreadable peanut butter and natural jars taste flat, this is the one we'd pick. It's 91% roasted peanuts, with sugar, salt and a stabiliser (INS 471) that keeps the oil from separating. The label shows 6.9 g of added sugar per 100 g, about 2 g in a 32 g serving, which is modest; it still has 28 g of protein per 100 g. MyFitness's chocolate jar tested well in Unbox Health's lab (B+, 2 µg/kg aflatoxin). [1] [13]
Ingredients: roasted peanuts (91%), sugar, salt, stabiliser (INS 471). Watch for: sodium is 133 mg per 100 g, compared with about 12 mg in the natural tub.

Pintola High Protein Organic Jaggery Peanut Butter
The best of the "high protein peanut butter" jars, a category with 14,800 searches a month in India. It replaces some of the peanuts with whey protein concentrate (10%), which pushes protein to 33 g per 100 g and improves its quality, since whey is rich in the amino acids peanuts lack. The trade-off is sweetness: 12% organic jaggery means 16.5 g of sugar per 100 g, five times a natural jar, and it costs twice as much. Per gram of protein, a natural jar plus a scoop of whey is cheaper.
Ingredients: roasted peanuts (78%), organic jaggery (12%), whey protein concentrate (10%). Watch for: contains milk, so it isn't vegan, and the jaggery counts as added sugar. [14] [15]

The Whole Truth Dark Chocolate Peanut Spread
One of only two peanut butters Unbox Health rated A, and the chocolate jar we'd pick. It's sweetened with whole dates rather than sugar, and the chocolate is made from cocoa in-house. Unbox measured 3.58 µg/kg total aflatoxin, just under the EU's strict 4 µg/kg total limit. Note that its 13.6 g of sugar per 100 g still counts toward your daily sugar, even if it comes from dates, and it's the most expensive jar here per 100 g. Treat it as a treat, not a protein source. [1] [11]

Dr. Oetker FunFoods Peanut Butter
The cheapest peanut butter on our list, and a reasonable family jar for toast and sandwiches. It's 91% roasted peanuts, with sugar, soyabean fat and salt; the pack says no palm oil and zero trans fat. Sugar is similar to MyFitness Original. If you're buying peanut butter mainly for protein or calories, a natural jar like Alpino costs only a few rupees more per 100 g with no added sugar, so this is best for households that want the classic taste on a budget.
Ingredients: roasted peanuts (91%), sugar, edible vegetable fat (soyabean), iodised salt. Watch for: not lab-tested by Unbox Health. Sugar figure from Open Food Facts. [14] [15]
Why these didn't make the list
- DiSano Natural Peanut Butter: the cheapest natural jar we found (₹239 for 1 kg, about ₹24 per 100 g), with accurate protein and sugar figures. But Unbox Health measured 104.95 µg/kg total aflatoxin (89.42 µg/kg B1) in a 2024 batch, about ten times FSSAI's limit for ready-to-eat nuts. [4] [5]
- Happilo Peanut Butter Crunchy (21.18 µg/kg) and Yogabar Dark Chocolate (18.78 µg/kg) also tested above 10 µg/kg. [1]
- Kissan and Saffola peanut butters: more sugar than our classic picks (about 10 g and 14 g per 100 g on their labels) and fewer peanuts. [15]
- MuscleBlaze High Protein and As-It-Is ATOM dark chocolate jars tested fine (B+), but have 16–20 g of sugar per 100 g; The Whole Truth's chocolate jar is the better treat. See the MuscleBlaze and As-It-Is brand profiles. [1]
These results come from one batch each, bought in 2024. Brands may have changed suppliers since; we'll update this page when newer independent results are published.
"The best peanut butter is just peanuts. After that, the thing worth paying attention to isn't the protein number on the front. It's whether the brand can show you a clean aflatoxin test."— Naked Compound Research Team
Aflatoxin in Indian peanut butter: what the lab tests found.
Aflatoxins are toxins made by Aspergillus moulds that grow on peanuts in warm, humid conditions, especially if they're stored badly after harvest. The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies them as Group 1, cancer-causing in humans; the main concern is liver cancer from long-term exposure. [7] Roasting doesn't reliably destroy them, so the only real protection is careful sorting of the peanuts before they're ground.
India's food regulator FSSAI sets a limit of 10 µg/kg (parts per billion) for aflatoxins in ready-to-eat nuts and 15 µg/kg for nuts meant for further processing. [5] The EU is stricter: 4 µg/kg total, 2 µg/kg for aflatoxin B1, in peanuts for direct consumption. [6] Unbox Health tested 11 peanut butters bought in India. Here's what it found:
µg/kg (ppb), one batch each, bought in 2024. Lower is better. One of our picks and three jars we left out were above FSSAI's limit.
Source: Unbox Health lab reports from NABL-accredited labs, ratings published April 2024. Jars bought from Amazon and other open-market sellers with no brand involvement. Each figure is one batch; another batch could test higher or lower. [1]–[4]
What this means for you. A tablespoon of a jar at 11 µg/kg contains about 0.18 micrograms of aflatoxin. One jar won't harm you; the risk comes from eating contaminated peanut products often, over years. Three practical steps: buy from brands with recent clean independent tests (Alpino, The Whole Truth, MyFitness and Sundrop all had at least one product test well), check the batch date and buy fresh, and throw out any jar that tastes bitter or musty. The "natural" label tells you nothing about aflatoxin: the cleanest and the most contaminated results were both 100% peanut jars.
Protein vs sugar per 100 g: natural jars win.
Protein barely changes between jars: 25–33 g per 100 g, because it all comes from the peanuts. Sugar is where they differ. Natural jars have 2–5 g (the peanuts' own sugar); classic jars add 5–7 g; high protein and chocolate jars add 10–14 g more.
Top bar protein, bottom bar sugar, on the same 0–40 g scale.
Per 100 g, from brand labels and Open Food Facts label scans. Values shown as protein · sugar. Sundrop's sugar is from its Natural Creamy label. [10]–[15]
Peanut butter price in India: ₹ per 100 g.
A good natural peanut butter doesn't have to cost more than a sweetened one. Alpino, Pintola and MyFitness natural jars cost ₹29–40 per 100 g in 1 kg-plus sizes, close to the cheapest classic jar. Premium and chocolate jars cost two to three times as much.
Solid bar: lowest price we found (sale price or biggest pack). Striped extension: up to the highest common price or smaller pack.

Natural vs classic vs high protein peanut butter: what's in the jar.
The front of the jar is marketing. The ingredient list, in order of weight, tells you what you're buying. These are the four recipes you'll see on Indian shelves:
By weight, from the ingredient percentages printed on each label.
FunFoods doesn't print the split between sugar and fat; we estimated it from its 7.5 g sugar per 100 g minus the sugar naturally in 91 g of peanuts. [13]–[15]
| On the label | What it means | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Roasted peanuts (100%) | Natural peanut butter; oil will separate | Best choice |
| Sugar, brown sugar, jaggery, honey, dates | Added sweetener, 5–17 g per 100 g | Fine in small amounts |
| INS 471 (mono- and diglycerides) | Emulsifier that stops oil separating | Safe; a sign it's a classic recipe |
| Edible vegetable fat / oil | Added fat to stop separation; source should be named | Check it isn't palm or hydrogenated |
| Hydrogenated vegetable oil | Partially hydrogenated fat can contain trans fat | Avoid |
| Whey protein concentrate | Adds protein and better amino acids; contains milk | Good, but usually comes with sugar |
Why Indian jars say "30 g protein" when US data says 22 g.
Look up peanut butter in the USDA's database and you'll see about 22 g of protein per 100 g; Indian natural jars say 30–32 g, and Unbox Health's lab confirmed those numbers. [1] [9] Nobody is lying. Two things explain the gap:
6.25 vs 5.46
Labs measure nitrogen and multiply it to get protein. Indian labels use the general factor of 6.25; the FAO's peanut-specific factor is 5.46. [8] USDA's raw peanuts (25.8 g protein at 5.46) work out to about 29.5 g at 6.25, almost exactly what Indian jars print. [9]
US jars aren't 100% peanuts
The USDA reference is a standard American peanut butter with added oil and sugar, so it has fewer peanuts per spoon than an Indian natural jar.
Compare like with like
All Indian brands use the same 6.25 factor, so comparing jars on the shelf is fair. Just don't compare an Indian label with a US database or a foreign jar.
~26 g, not 30 g
Using the peanut factor, a "30 g" jar has about 26 g of protein. That's why The Whole Truth's 25.1 g label isn't a worse product.
Peanut butter for the gym and weight gain: a calorie food first.
Peanut butter is about 50% fat, which is why it's so calorie-dense: around 625–650 kcal per 100 g, or about 100 kcal in a level tablespoon. That makes it one of the cheapest, easiest ways to add calories on a bulk. As a protein food it's average: two tablespoons give about 9–10 g of protein with 200 kcal, while a scoop of whey gives 24 g with 120 kcal. Peanut protein is also low in lysine, an essential amino acid that milk, curd, eggs and whey are rich in, so the two work well together.
+200 kcal for ₹10–14
Two tablespoons of a natural jar stirred into oats, a shake or a roti. Our 750-kcal oat gainer shake uses one tablespoon.
Hit your protein first
Lifters need about 1.6–2.2 g of protein per kg of body weight a day. [17] Peanut butter helps with calories; milk, curd, paneer, eggs or whey should do the heavy lifting on protein.
Overnight oats
A tablespoon swirled through overnight protein oats with Greek yogurt takes it to 634 kcal and 30 g of protein.
Measure it
On a diet, use a measuring spoon. A heaped "tablespoon" from the jar is often 25–30 g, or 160–190 kcal. Our Cut Without Crashing protocol shows where it fits.
For a full bulking plan, see the Lean Mass Builder protocol, our best oats for muscle gain and the Greek yogurt rankings. Vegetarian lifters can build a whole day around peanut butter, dairy and pulses with the Pure-Veg protocol.
Crunchy vs creamy peanut butter, and why the oil separates.
Same nutrition
Same ingredients, ground differently. Crunchy has small peanut pieces; creamy is ground smooth. Pick the one you like.
Normal, not spoiled
Peanuts are about half oil. Without a stabiliser, it rises to the top. That's a sign of a natural jar, not a bad one.
Stir once, store upside down
Stir thoroughly with a knife when you open the jar, then store it lid-down so the oil spreads back through. Refrigerating slows separation but makes it harder to spread.
Smell it
A sharp, bitter, paint-like smell means the fat has gone rancid. Keep the jar away from the stove and use it within a few months of opening.
Is peanut butter healthy? Yes, in tablespoons.
Good fats, good evidence for nuts. More than 80% of the fat in peanuts is unsaturated. A large meta-analysis of prospective studies found that eating about 28 g of nuts a day, including peanuts, was linked to about 20–30% lower risk of heart disease and about 22% lower risk of death from any cause. [16] These are observational studies, and peanut butter specifically has been studied less than whole nuts, but a natural jar is close to whole peanuts.
The catch is calories. At 100 kcal a tablespoon, it's easy to eat more than you think. One to two tablespoons a day fits almost any diet.
Choose the jar carefully. Pick 100% peanuts or a classic jar low in sugar, and prefer brands with clean independent aflatoxin tests (see above).
Check with a doctor first if you have a peanut allergy (never test it at home), kidney disease and have been told to limit protein or phosphorus, or diabetes and are choosing a sweetened jar. Peanut butter is a choking risk for children under four unless spread thinly.
