Top 10 Whey Protein Brands in India 2026, Ranked on Lab Tests
Whey is India's best-selling supplement and its most faked. A label can promise 24 g of protein a scoop and deliver less, or reach that number with cheap amino acids instead of whey. We ranked the top 10 brands on independent lab results where they exist, a simple leucine check that exposes amino spiking, and what 10 g of protein really costs.
Seven of our ten picks. Pack images from brand stores and retailer listings.
The best whey protein brand in India is Optimum Nutrition: its Gold Standard 100% Whey matched its protein claim in an independently initiated lab test (79.35 g vs 79 g per 100 g), had a normal whey amino acid profile, and is sold everywhere. It isn't cheap at about ₹68 per 10 g of protein. For value, AS-IT-IS ONE Whey Concentrate costs ₹38–41 per 10 g and Nakpro Platinum is the cheapest good isolate. Beastlife Pro passed an independent test at a mid-range price, and The Whole Truth is the only pick without artificial sweeteners. Avoid Bigmuscles Essential Whey: its amino acid profile looks like amino spiking.

Protein as labelled
Unbox Health has published lab results for 29 whey powders sold in India. We used every one, and weighted independent tests above brand-commissioned ones. [1]
Leucine about 10%
Whey protein is roughly 10% leucine. A powder far below that is padding its protein number with something else. See the leucine check. [11]
₹ per 10 g of protein
Protein content ranges from 69% to 91% between these powders, so we compare the cost of the protein, not the tub.

The 10 best whey protein brands in India, reviewed.

Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey
The world's best-known whey is still the safest choice in India, and the evidence backs it. When Unbox Health chose a tub off Amazon itself, the lab found 79.35 g of protein per 100 g against 79 g on the label, and an amino acid profile that looks exactly like real whey (9.8% leucine). It was rated A+. The protein is a blend led by whey isolate, it mixes easily, and it's sold everywhere. The downside is price: about 70% more per gram of protein than our value pick. [2] [13]
Ingredients: protein blend 93% (whey isolate, whey concentrate, hydrolysed whey), emulsifier, cocoa, flavours, sweetener (acesulfame K, INS 950). Watch for: ON is widely counterfeited; buy from the ON India store or Amazon listings sold by authorised sellers. Our full review scores it 8.1/10.

AS-IT-IS ONE Whey Protein Concentrate 80%
The cheapest real whey we found: a single ingredient, whey protein concentrate, with no flavour or sweetener. The lab found 80.43 g of protein per 100 g against 80 g claimed, with a normal leucine share. Being unflavoured, it's best blended into milk, a smoothie or our oat gainer shake rather than mixed with water. [3] [13]
Watch for: concentrate contains lactose; switch to an isolate if milk bloats you. AS-IT-IS's flavoured ATOM range uses more sweeteners and costs more. See the AS-IT-IS brand profile.

Nakpro Platinum Whey Protein Isolate
The most protein per scoop of any powder here, and the cheapest isolate per gram of protein. Isolate has most of the lactose and fat filtered out, so it suits people who get bloated on concentrate. This exact product hasn't been lab-tested by Unbox Health, but Nakpro's budget Impact Whey, picked by community vote and bought from Amazon, matched its label (53.8 g vs 53 g protein per 100 g). Our review scores the Platinum 8.5/10. [6] [14]
Watch for: flavoured Platinum variants drop to 28 g protein per scoop. Avoid Nakpro's Impact range if you want a high-protein powder: it's only about 53% protein.

Beastlife Pro 100% Whey Protein
A newer brand that earns its place on evidence: Unbox Health's community voted to test it, the lab bought a tub from Amazon, and it measured 69.78 g of protein per 100 g against 69 g on the label, with a normal whey amino profile. It was rated A+. It's a flavoured whey concentrate with a short list, sweetened with sucralose, and good value for a flavoured powder. [5] [13]
Watch for: at 69% protein it gives less per scoop than an isolate, so compare on price per gram (it's still mid-range).

The Whole Truth Whey Protein (Light Cocoa)
The only flavoured whey here without sucralose, acesulfame K or other artificial sweeteners: it's sweetened with date powder and a pinch of monk fruit, with whole milk powder and cocoa for taste. That makes it the pick for people who dislike the aftertaste of artificial sweeteners. The lab found slightly less protein than claimed: 68.1 g against 71 g per 100 g (about 4% short), in a brand-commissioned test. The brand's unflavoured isolate, tested by community vote, came in 7% short. [4] [1]
Ingredients: whey protein isolate 50%, whey concentrate 24.9%, whole milk powder 9%, date powder 8%, cocoa 7.4%, bromelain, monk fruit 0.1%.

Nutrabay Gold Whey Protein Isolate
If you want a flavoured isolate, this is the best value we found: about ₹53 per 10 g of protein, against ₹96 or more for imported isolates. Our review scores it 8.3/10 on dose, form and label honesty. Unbox Health hasn't tested it. [13]
Watch for: Amazon's listing says 26 g of protein per serving while our review recorded 25 g per 30 g scoop; check the pack you buy. Nutrabay's "Gold Whey" concentrate is a different, cheaper product.

MuscleBlaze Biozyme Performance Whey
India's biggest home-grown whey brand, available in every city and on every app, at a fair price per gram of protein. The marketing leans on a patented enzyme blend that MuscleBlaze says improves protein absorption by 50%; that claim comes from brand-funded research and doesn't translate into proven extra muscle. Our review scores it 7.3/10. [13]

Avvatar Whey Protein
Avvatar is made by Parag Milk Foods, one of India's large dairy companies, which appeals to buyers who want whey from an Indian dairy rather than an importer. It's a concentrate and isolate blend at about 70% protein (24 g in a roughly 34.5 g serving), sweetened with acesulfame K and sucralose. Neither Unbox Health nor we have tested it, so it ranks below brands with lab data. [13]
Ingredients: whey concentrate, whey isolate, cocoa, salt, stabilisers (INS 415, 417), acesulfame K, sunflower lecithin, sucralose, flavour. Avvatar's cheaper "Alpha" whey is a different product.

Myprotein Impact Whey Protein
Europe's biggest sports-nutrition brand, with a huge range of flavours. The concentrate has 73.8 g of protein per 100 g on the India label, and the salted caramel version lists whey concentrate at 95.8% with maltodextrin, flavour, salt and sucralose. It hasn't been lab-tested in India by Unbox Health. Our review of the Impact Whey Isolate scores it 7.2/10. [14]
Watch for: buy from myprotein.co.in or its authorised Amazon store; imported brands are common counterfeit targets.

Dymatize ISO100 Hydrolyzed
A premium hydrolysed isolate with almost no lactose and fat, which makes it the gentlest option if even regular whey upsets your stomach. Hydrolysed protein digests a little faster, but at matched protein doses it doesn't build more muscle than ordinary isolate, so you're paying for tolerance and brand, not results. It's the most expensive whey here per gram. Our review scores it 7.0/10. [13]
Lab results that kept brands off the list
- Bigmuscles Nutrition Essential Whey Protein: in Unbox Health's independent test it had 48.3 g of protein per 100 g, but only 3.4% of that was leucine (real whey is about 10%) and 32% was threonine, a pattern consistent with cheap free amino acids added to inflate the protein reading. It also contained 11.1 µg/kg of aflatoxin and was rated C. See our Bigmuscles Premium Gold review and brand profile. [9]
- HealthifyMe 100% Whey (Double Chocolate): independent test found 71 g of protein against 77 g claimed (8% short) and a low 6.7% leucine share. Rated B+. [8]
- MuscleBlaze 100% Whey: about 11% less protein than labelled in an independent test (see #7). [7]
Each result is one batch. Brands can fix problems, so we'll update this page when newer independent results are published.
"Every whey says 24 g on the front. Only a lab test, and the leucine number in it, tells you whether it's really whey."— Naked Compound Research Team
Label vs lab: does the protein add up?
Unbox Health has published lab results for 29 whey powders sold in India. Most tests were commissioned by the brands themselves. Only a handful were chosen independently, by Unbox Health or its community, and bought off Amazon. [1] That distinction matters: a brand can choose which batch to send. Here are the results for the brands on this page.
Top bar: label. Bottom bar: lab. Orange rows came in more than 5% under the label. Scale 0–100 g.
Source: Unbox Health lab reports, NABL-accredited labs, one batch per product; tests from August 2024 (ON, MuscleBlaze, HealthifyMe, Bigmuscles) and December 2025 (the rest). "Independent" covers tests initiated by Unbox Health or by its community vote. [1]–[9]
Notice that Bigmuscles' protein number looks almost fine at 48.3 g against 50 g claimed. That's exactly why the protein total alone isn't enough, and why the next check matters.
The leucine check: how to spot amino spiking.
Most labs measure protein indirectly, by measuring nitrogen. Every amino acid contains nitrogen, so a manufacturer can add cheap free amino acids such as glycine, taurine or threonine and the "protein" number goes up without adding real whey. This is called amino spiking. The giveaway is the amino acid profile: whey protein is roughly 10% leucine, the amino acid that does most to switch on muscle building. [11] A powder whose protein is only 3–5% leucine is mostly something else.
Real whey protein is about 10% leucine. The shaded column marks 8–12%, where most whey powders landed in Unbox Health's tests; bars that fall short of it are in orange.
Leucine ÷ total protein, both as measured per 100 g by Unbox Health. Across all 29 whey powders it tested, 27 fell between 7.6% and 12.6%. "Independent" means Unbox Health or its community chose the product and bought it from Amazon. [1] [7]–[9]
How to protect yourself: prefer brands with a recent independent test that publishes the amino acid profile, not just "protein"; buy from the brand store or authorised sellers; check the batch number and expiry on the tub; and be suspicious of a price far below every other seller. If a brand only shares a certificate of analysis on request, that's weaker evidence than a public, independent test.
Whey protein price in India: ₹ per 10 g of protein.
Protein content ranges from about 69% to 91% between these powders, so the price of a kilo misleads. Divide the price by the grams of protein in the tub. Unflavoured Indian powders are cheapest; imported hydrolysed isolates cost more than twice as much for the same protein.
Solid bar: lowest price we found. Striped extension: up to the higher listing.
Calculated as price ÷ (pack weight × label protein per 100 g) × 10 g, from Amazon.in and brand-store prices on 8 October 2026. For comparison, protein bars cost ₹27–83 per 10 g; see our protein bar comparison. [13] [14]
Whey concentrate vs isolate vs hydrolysed: which should you buy?
| Type | Protein | Lactose | Price per gram | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Concentrate (WPC) | 70–80% | Some | Cheapest | Most people |
| Isolate (WPI) | 85–90%+ | Very little | Higher | Lactose sensitivity, cutting |
| Hydrolysed isolate | ~78–90% | Very little | Highest | Sensitive stomachs |
| Blend (WPC + WPI) | 70–80% | Some | Middle | Taste and mixability |
At the same dose of protein, concentrate and isolate build muscle equally well: protein supplementation adds lean mass in trained adults, and the gains level off at about 1.6 g of protein per kg of body weight a day, whatever the type. [10] Buy isolate for tolerance or for more protein per scoop, not for better results. For whey isolates specifically, see our best whey protein isolate picks and budget whey picks.
How much whey do you need? Usually one scoop.
20–25 g of protein
About 20 g of whey after training gets close to the maximum muscle-building response for most people; 40 g adds only a modest extra boost. [12]
~1.6 g per kg
Total daily protein matters most. Gains from extra protein level off at about 1.6 g per kg of body weight a day. [10] Whey is a convenient way to reach it.
Cheaper protein
Milk, curd, paneer, eggs and dal are cheaper per gram. Try our Greek yogurt picks or the Pure-Veg protocol.
Creatine, 3–5 g a day
The best-evidenced supplement to add alongside whey for strength and muscle. See our creatine picks.
Check with a doctor first if you have kidney disease and have been told to limit protein, or a milk allergy. Whey is lacto-vegetarian, not vegan.
