The gap between each bar and its dot is this year's whey price rise. For the middle half of the tubs, 25 g of protein costs ₹38–48 more than at the tub's best price of the past year (median ₹41, range ₹28–90).
How we calculate cost per 25 g
- Protein in the pack. From the label: protein per 100 g × pack weight when the serving size is stated; otherwise servings per pack × protein per serving. Where a listing gives two different figures, we use the lower one.
- Number of 25 g servings. Protein in the pack ÷ 25.
- Cost per 25 g. Pack price ÷ number of 25 g servings. We do the same with the pack's August–September price and 12-month low.
These are label claims, not lab results. A tub that under-delivers on protein is dearer than it looks here. Our whey protein comparison and reviews show which brands have matched their labels in independent tests. Prices are for one flavour and size each; others can differ.

On 15 October 2026, the cheapest of the 16 popular tubs we track was AS-IT-IS ATOM Whey (₹101.5 per 25 g of protein), Nakpro Gold Whey (₹102.7 per 25 g of protein), AS-IT-IS Whey Concentrate 80% (₹103.1 per 25 g of protein), at Amazon.in prices before coupons. The median tub cost ₹125.8 per 25 g. Cheapest isn't automatically best: check protein content and lab tests too.
How do you calculate cost per 25 g of protein?
We divide the pack price by the number of 25 g protein servings in the pack. Protein in the pack comes from the label: protein per 100 g times the pack weight when the serving size is stated, otherwise servings per pack times protein per serving. Each row shows the label figure we used.
Why 25 g of protein?
Most whey scoops contain 22 to 28 g of protein, so 25 g is about one scoop. Comparing the same amount of protein, rather than the same weight of powder, stops a tub with smaller or weaker scoops looking cheaper than it is.
Why is whey protein so expensive in 2026?
Global whey prices hit records in 2026 and India imports most of its supplement-grade whey; Business Standard reported domestic whey prices up about 350% to over ₹4,500 per kg in October 2026. Across the tubs we track, the median cost of 25 g of protein is 56% higher than at each tub's 12-month low.
Is cheaper whey protein lower quality?
Not necessarily. Price per gram of protein says nothing about purity, amino spiking or heavy-metal levels. Some of the cheapest tubs here have passed independent lab tests and some of the dearest are imported isolates. Our reviews and whey comparison cover lab results.
