Billy Jealousy LiquidSand is a pleasant, gentle scrub-cleanser for normal to oily skin, but it isn't an acid exfoliant. It cleans with a mild, low-foam base and polishes with fine silica, a gentler grit than crushed shells or seeds. The lactic acid printed on the bottle is the last of its 22 ingredients, so expect little chemical exfoliation. It contains fragrance and parabens, and like any physical scrub it's best used 1–2 times a week, not daily, especially on darker skin that marks easily. Billy Jealousy is a US men's grooming brand, and LiquidSand is its best-known product: a creamy exfoliating face wash sold in barber shops and department stores, and on Amazon India through import sellers. It's the kind of product people buy for the experience as much as the result, which is exactly why it's worth reading closely.
We read the label the way we read a supplement label: what's stated, what's implied, and what's missing. We haven't lab-tested this product. "With Lactic AHA"
Lactic acid is a genuine exfoliating acid, but at useful strengths it appears near the top of a formula. Here it's the last ingredient. The exfoliation you feel comes from the silica.
Fine silica, not shells
Scrubs made with crushed shells or kernels can have jagged edges. Silica is a much finer grit, which makes LiquidSand one of the gentler physical scrubs, as long as you don't overuse it.
"Daily exfoliation"
Some listings sell it as a daily face wash. For most skin, and especially darker skin that develops marks easily, a physical scrub every day is too much. Start at 1–2 times a week.
Luxury pricing
You're paying for a brand, a texture and a scent, plus the import margin in India. The formula itself uses standard, inexpensive ingredients. That's fine if you enjoy it; just know what the premium buys.
What we can actually say.
Physical exfoliation helps texture, but frequency matters. The American Academy of Dermatology advises choosing an exfoliation method to suit your skin type, being gentle, and stopping if skin becomes red or irritated. Oily, thicker skin tolerates mechanical exfoliation best; dry, sensitive or acne-prone skin may find it too irritating. [3]
Darker skin needs extra care. The AAD specifically warns against strong mechanical exfoliation for people with darker skin tones or anyone who gets dark spots after acne, burns or bites, because irritation can trigger that pigmentation. That describes a large share of Indian skin. [3]
The lactic acid won't do much, and that's partly a relief. AHAs like lactic acid can exfoliate and smooth, and at meaningful strengths the US FDA asks for a sunburn warning because they increase sun sensitivity. [4] As the last ingredient in a rinse-off wash, LiquidSand's lactic acid is very unlikely to deliver either the benefit or the sun sensitivity of a leave-on AHA.

How to use a scrub without the marks.
Wet, massage lightly, rinse
Apply a small amount to a wet face and massage in gentle circles for 20–30 seconds, with no pressure. Let the silica do the work, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. [2]

Use your regular gentle cleanser on other days. If your skin stays comfortable after a few weeks, you can try a third day, but stop at the first sign of stinging, redness or flaking. [3]
Active acne or irritated skin
Don't scrub over inflamed acne, cuts, sunburn or an eczema flare. Also avoid it on the same night as a retinoid, benzoyl peroxide or other acids.

Your skin is reactive, or you want an acid exfoliant
- You have sensitive skin, a fragrance allergy or prefer paraben-free products.
- You have active, inflamed acne or skin that develops dark marks easily.
- You're buying it for the lactic acid: a leave-on AHA product will do far more.
- You want value: basic gentle scrubs and acid exfoliants cost much less in India.
