Fragrance · The Edit

Read the concentration before the bottle.

EDT and EDP wear differently, and cost differently for a reason. Three picks that state what's actually in the bottle, and how to check anything else.

Concentration — not brand name, not the notes listed on the box — is the single biggest driver of how long a fragrance lasts and how far it projects. Eau de Parfum (EDP) carries roughly 15–20% aromatic compounds; Eau de Toilette (EDT) carries roughly 5–15%. A listing that only says "Perfume" or "Fragrance," without stating which, is the most common source of disappointment in this category.

We read fragrance listings for whether the concentration is actually stated, whether the seller is verifiable, and whether "long-lasting" claims are backed by anything beyond the words themselves. Three picks below, and the checks to run on anything else.

15–20%
Typical aromatic compound concentration in Eau de Parfum (EDP).
5–15%
Typical concentration in Eau de Toilette (EDT) — shorter wear, lighter projection.

"'Perfume' with no EDT or EDP stated isn't a red flag by itself — but it means you're guessing at how long it'll actually last."

Do It Yourself

How to check any listing.

Concentration check

EDT, EDP, or neither

Look for the concentration stated in the title, bullet points, or bottle image — not just implied by price.

Seller check

Who it's sold by

Sold directly by the brand or through a verified fulfilment partner reduces the risk of diluted or tampered stock, especially for imported names.

Skin-test reminder

Descriptions aren't guarantees

Notes develop differently on different skin. Where possible, test before committing to a full-size bottle.

Value check

Price-per-ml, not the set

Calculate ₹ per ml before assuming a gift set beats the full-size bottle — deluxe samples sometimes cost more per ml.

Frequently asked
EDT vs EDP — does it matter which one I buy?
Yes. Eau de Parfum concentrations (roughly 15–20% aromatic compounds) last longer and project further than Eau de Toilette (5–15%). Listings that only say "Perfume" or "Fragrance," without EDT, EDP or Cologne stated anywhere, are the most common source of disappointment on marketplace fragrance.
Why does the same fragrance smell different on different people?
Skin pH, natural oil production, and body temperature all affect how a fragrance's top, heart, and base notes develop over the day. A scent that smells sharp on one person's skin can read warmer or softer on another's — testing on your own skin before committing to a full bottle matters more than a description.
Is Indian-brand fragrance (Bella Vita, Engage, Wild Stone) as good as imported perfume?
"As good as" depends on what you're optimising for. Domestic brands are generally more affordable and often use EDP-strength concentrations at EDT-tier prices, but note complexity and longevity can vary more between batches than with established international houses. Read the concentration and reviews for the specific product rather than judging by country of origin alone.
Does a gift set guarantee better value than buying full-size?
Not automatically. Gift sets sometimes bundle deluxe-sample sizes at a price that looks discounted but works out more expensive per ml than the full-size bottle. Check the total ml and do the price-per-ml math before assuming a set is the better deal.
